Healing Heart Deep

Updated: Apr 15, 2023

There are many ways for you to connect with God. You can pray out loud, speaking directly to Him, expressing yourself as you would to a dear friend. You can journal. The act of writing or journaling everything on paper, sharing all your joys and sorrows can be rather freeing. You can sit with Him in adoration, actually being within His proximity can do wonders for your heart and soul. You can simply express yourself through metal prayer. You can express yourself through music, singing praises to God!

When you do any of these things you do not need to say anything at all. You simply sitting, intentionally sitting, to be with God is enough for Him. Now, you simply need to listen. I do not mean to hear what He has to say, but listen to what He has to say and acknowledge it. Be open to Him reaching deep inside your heart, touching the wounds you have covered so tightly, so securely, to keep people from hurting you again. Let Him heal you. Let Him touch your heart.

It does hurt, but just like healing an actual open sore at skin level, once it is covered with ointment, it heals so much easier, and so much more beautifully then it could have ever done on its own. God is our ointment. Although, I’d say, He is more than just our ointment, He is our life.

I find the most healing comes when you are intentionally seeking to be healed. If you do not seek the healer, the healing will not occur. Thus, the most significant healing times in my life typically occur during the Advent and Lenten seasons of the Roman Catholic church. I feel like a whole new woman during the Christmas and Easter seasons because of the seasons that came before the big celebrations.

How do you find which method of prayer is for you? Well, you have to try a few methods, try them a few times to see which best resonates with you. Does one come a little more naturally for you then the others?

I have never been one to journal. I find my best method to pray and be with God is through simply sitting with Him, usually in silence, however, growing up in a big family you learn how to find silence within the chaos of life. What might seem quiet to me, might be too noisy for another. I also find just talking out loud to Him works. Once I express my every worry, joy, and sorrow to Him, I then sit in silence and listen to Him. The only place I seem to find quiet to speak out loud to Him is in the car on my way to work.

Recognize, Awareness, Healing

How do you recognize you need healing in a certain area of your life? In my personal journey I usually see I have an area to recover from, to heal from, when I have a short fuse. When I lash out at someone for something minor, or even big, but do not take the time to understand and reflect before responding. It is in these instances, that I know I need to heal from some past hurts.

There are times I feel as if I have an out of body experience while an event is taking place that I usually regret later. I find myself arguing with someone and while it is happening I am standing over the whole event wondering to myself why I am acting out in such a disgraceful way. Of course during the whole event I can’t actually communicate to myself, to tell myself to breathe, to walk away for a minute, to process and think. No, in the heat of the moment, I can only react, and so that is all I do. I continue to hurt the one before me.

It is in moments like this that we must work to heal ourselves. To work to lengthen the fuse, so we can love others in the same ways God loves us. It is in these moments that we need to let God reach deep within and touch those wounds, to heal those wounds.

I know I have a lot to heal from yet. But awareness of the wounds you know of, and the wounds you do not yet know of, is key to recovering from the past. Just know God is with you every step of the way. I can honestly say He is, because He has never left me. Even in the darkest of times.

What method of prayer are you going to try first? What area of your life are you going to seek the healer? How deep will you let Him go?
